In “Untitled (Piero della Francesca)” (2014), Ciprian Mureșan continues his exploration of art history. Drawing on the visual world of the Renaissance master Piero della Francesca, he translates canonical models into drawings and develops them further through his own interpretative approach. The etchings form part of a body of work that began in 2013 with a book on Bas Jan Ader. It is linked to the legend of the Dutch artist, who spent four years drawing on the same sheet of paper, each time etching away the previous drawing before beginning a new one. Two etchings, each 18 x 15 cm, signed and dated. Mounted in a passe-partout and framed.

About the Artist Ciprian Muresan

Ciprian Mureșan (b. 1977 in Dej, Romania) is one of the defining voices of contemporary Romanian art. In drawings, sculptures, videos and installations he interrogates — often with fine irony — notions of value and authorship, reflecting on the aftermath of post-communism. His work "Leap into the Void, After Three Seconds" (2004), which relocates Yves Klein's famous image to a street in Cluj, brought him wide attention. Mureșan studied at the University of Art and Design in Cluj and represented Romania at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009; his work has been shown at the Centre Pompidou, the New Museum and Tate Modern, among others. He lives and works in Cluj.
