"High Cleese II" presents Vincent Scheers' artistic process in its most distilled form. Working on nettle canvas, he allows natural pigments, dyes, and bleaching agents to interact, enabling the image to emerge through processes of lightening and staining as if generated by the material itself. The work's distinctive quality lies in the tension between application and removal, visibility and dissolution, appearance and disappearance. Throughout much of his practice, Scheers explores the relationship between humans and animals. In "High Cleese II," the seemingly abstract composition gradually resolves, upon closer inspection, into a figurative image: a rider on horseback slowly emerges from the surface.
